Why does such a large portion of immigrants live in Illinois even though it has no strategic position to any borders? This is part of a homework assignment so don't think I have a problem with it. I don't even live there. Chill out, and don't think I'm racist.

Actually the majority of immigrants live in the states of California, New Mexico, Texas, and New York. I don't know where you get your information from. It might seem like Illinois has a lot of immigrants if you live in the Chicago metropolitan area, but if you live somewhere else in the state, the immigrant population is pretty much nonexistent.
