my inlaws are are from South Carolina, and I've been around them for years during our annual visiss and there are fascinating differences that I'd like to learn more about. I hink I'm starting to find these differences annoying and am curious as to their origins.1 when they ask you a question, they immediately follow with the word " SAY" . for example, Did you take out the trash? Say. the word " say" follows within 1 second of the question Now I could understand it more if it's used to provoke a response, like " HELLO , did you hear me ?" , but when they say it without a giving the person a chance to breath it seems a bit weird and annoying.2 Every thought or decision is a presented for public consumption, and requires input and some sort of confirmation. It's like there's this deep rooted lack of confidence that permeates absolutely everything done and said. Even simple everyday routines are subject to this review.3 They rarely talk to you, instead they ask my partner even though I'm standing right there. For example, if it's breakfast and they are wondering if you'd like orange juice or milk they'll ask my partner if I prefer Orange juice or milk, even though I'm literally right there. Very stange So if you can help explain these differences I'd be most appreciative.

I am a white male. I actually came from Florence and moved when i was 12. As a boy, I never experienced hearing or seeing racism. Maybe a remark or two as jokes. But i am married to a Native woman and i have a 2 year old son and i want to go back home. My family loves her but i dont know how things really are with everyone else. I always hear people say, Don't take her down south cause they will burn a cross in your yard and hurt your son and wife and it will be hell for your family. Even if they dont mind natives, i am scared they may think she is hispanic. thats what people say may happen. i love my family and i dont want to see anything happen to them.
