Do people in the U.S. Virgin Islands conciser themselves Americans?
I know they are U.S. citizens, but are they patriotic towards the USA. I know Puerto Ricans are.

Are blacks from the U.S. Virgin Islands considered "African-American"?
So Im from St.Crox in the Virgin Islands..Virgin Islanders basically have the same history as blacks in the U.S. plus our head of state is Barack H. Obama.. Although we are not a U.S. state...Would we be considered African American or what?

Why do a vast majority of people believe that people from the United States Virgin Islands are uncivilized?
When communicating with people on the mainland U.S they are shocked to find out I am from the USVI.Common questions or comments I am faced with are 1. Do you have cars?2. Do you live in trees?3. OMG You can speak English 4. OMG You attend an University in the...........VIRGIN ISLANDS? ? 5. You must be amongst the houshold with highest income because you speak English very well.6. What language do you speak, it sounds so pretty.7. You have computers?8. You have electricty?9. Are you from Jamaica?10. Last but not least. Can you say that again?I know I have an accent and when I am amongst family I tend to speak how I would at home in my dialect or Creole which ever you chose to call it and it's quite irrtating to hear people say these things. So my question is why?Another thing that ticks me off is Krystal from College Hill 4 she was broke as hell and still tried to downplay the shopping the island has to offer, we may not have Gap b c no one here really wears that but we have Designer Jeans Co., Chanel and Tommy stores just to name a few.

The 2002, Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands Zombie Outbreak, is it Real?
If anyone does know kindly put some more info on it REAL info people. I was just so curios about it from reading ZSG zombie survival guide which states that it was the most recent zombie outbreak thanks

Why do people (or "some" people) natively from the Virgin Islands have an accent?
I apologize for my naivety in advance. I work with a girl from St. Thomas. I know the Virgin Islands are part of the United States and that English is the main language there but my friends' accent is strong and sometimes I can't even understand the words she is saying. I've also found that she is lost to particular expressions commonly used in English. In short, our communication is difficult. This is confusing to me. I am also explaining something different than what one may encounter within mainland U.S.A for example, one born and raised in California verses one born and raised in the southern states i.e. " Texan accent" .

Do you consider people from The U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico to be Americans?
I'm from the VI, would you look at me as an American or would you just look at me as someone from the Caribbean. I just want opinions.I just wish my senators could make us an actual state, but I'm very proud to be American...thanks for the answers.Well Lex I understand what you're saying but our main language is still English and yeah, we eat Caribbean food but we also eat food that Americans eat. When we say the pledge we have our American flag and our VI flag. We speak broken English and some of us have accents but if you met me you'd think I was a state sider the way I talk unless I'm around friends and family. But I guess I can say I'm proud to be an American and a West Indian. Two beautiful cultures and two beautiful places, but great answers.Lex, you make good points..And my mom and dad are from St. Kitts.anyway, good answers.we have too much in common, that's where my dad was from no joke. he was from the country my mom is from town.

Do you consider people from Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to be true "Americans" or...?
I'm just curious...because while they have American citizenship, from a cultural perspective they aint really all that " American" and tend to socially, physically and culturally fall in line with other peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.Jen shut up. No need to act uncivilisedI'm asking this question because in general, most Americans cant readily differentiate between Puerto Ricans and other Latin Americans, nor can they differentiate between Virgin Islanders and most people from the English CaribbeanAnd in the case of puerto ricans especially...they dont even speak the English language. People from Michigan and Georgia have WAY more in common with each other than either do with a puerto rican or a virgin islanderBetty You're not speaking from a Puerto Rican perspective, you're speaking from an American one. Yes, some Puerto Ricans speak english, but 80 % of Puerto Ricans speak it " less than very well" according to the census. But my point is that Puerto Rico is a colony of the United States, not a state, and I just wanted to know if people generally viewed the colonies as the same as the mainland. Most people in the English speaking caribbean were born British citizens, but they dont see themselves as British. I just was looking to see if Puerto Ricans were identified more with the culture and heritage of the United States or with their own unique identity as both a separate people and as part of latin america.

Do you consider ppl from Puerto Ricoand Virgin Islands to be actual "Americans" ?
Or do you consider them to be people with a foreign culture who just happen to have American citizenship?Axel si tu eres americano, porque los del " mainland" no pueden diferenciar uds. de los otros paises hispanos?Unless Americans can tell you're american and not a foreigner, you aint culturally American.
