Sure these areas have their great qualities, but who gives a shit, just like every other city you have a lot of expensive crap, terrible traffic, pompous citizens, except here you get to add the fact some of the most corrupt and despicable people live in this area, they're called politicians and highly overpaid professional athletes. I've been offered a job with an Americorps VISTA program in Wyoming County, WV. I'm excited to move there and I have a friend I just graduated college with who is also working with VISTA in Wyoming County right now. She has warned me that it is beautiful but extremely isolated and poor. The difference between our prospective experiences is that she is Caucasian and I am not. My father is from Pakistan and my mother is from Nicaragua, but I was born and raised in Kansas. Will my ethnicity and foreign sounding name work against me? The town is Mullens, West Virginia, and I'm eager to go and do this job but I want to know exactly what I'm getting into. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Hello, I am 14 and live in Chesapeake, I recently went on a trip to PA and helped at the nursing room and repaired houses, and I really enjoyed helping the community, I wished to further that experience, but all I find is a bunch of " save the lake" crap, I'm more interested in direct help to help people as apposed to making already livable lives better e.g. making the bay swim able again . I looked into Habitat for Humanity, but it requires you too be 16 . Does anyone know of any organizations I would be interested in?
