Question: What do you think of delegate bob marshall's (virginia) statement about abortions and vengeance?

First abortions of the first pregnancy are much more damaging to the woman than latter abortions. " The study he mentions was of 37 women, and no handicapping conditions were noted in subsequent births. There did seem to be a tendency toward more premature births in subsequent pregnancies. Molly: I'm not saying anything. Del. Marshall is doing the talking here. Yes, Del. Marshall is an elected official. Virginia has a House of Delegates (like a House of Representatives). Yes, at first he apologized and said that he regretted choosing those words. Today he is taking no responsibility at all and is blaming the Virginia Commonwealth student media for deliberately making him look bad. His statement is on tape, so there's not much to misinterpret.

Is this man an elected official in the state of Virginia? (I'm not sure what a "delegate " is.) If so, he should be recalled immediately. Religion has no place in government decision making.

Sounds like screwy thinking to me. I have known women to have abortions and have healthy babies later. Same kind of thinking as a woman who told me that infertility was the result of couples living in sin before marriage. She said infertility was a punishment for that. I told her what about all the children born out of wedlock, if that is the case. And what about men who are infertile due to a case of mumps they got as children?

So, you're saying, we shouldn't allow 15 year olds a chance to fix their mistakes and go to college without worrying about getting a babysitter? I've known women that have aborted their first pregnancies...were teens at the time, and they were able to have families once they were secure in their career, and married.

He did later say that his comment was misinterpreted. I think religious fanatics are this world's biggest danger. How would he explain people having ignorant, arrogant, inflexible, closed minded children...like him? Is he God's vengeance on his own parents ?

I am anti abortion unless in exceptional circumstances but I am in no position to judge anyone and it is statements like this that will put fear and guilt in to the minds of some women.

Medically, there's no such thing as a "miscarriage " -- "miscarriage' is a layman's term. They are "spontaneous abortions ". Many first pregnancies end in spontaneous abortion. Has he ever done any research into subsequent births following those? I'm embarrassed that the people of my state elected this pinhead.
